Almaty - Kok Tobe
The Kok Tobe of Almaty is not only synonymous with the charm of the mountains, fresh, clean air and a sense of freedom; it is also a place where friends meet, lovers go for walks, holidays with children or simply a pleasant pastime.
Kok Tobe Park is a popular place for romantic dates and family outings. The recreation park is located on the top of Kok Tobe Mountain, 1,100 metres above sea level. The city centre is only a 10-minute drive away, but a ride on the famous cable car offers even more fun and breathtaking views of the city. From the top of Kok Tobe Mountain, you can overlook not only the city of Almaty, but also the enchanting panorama of the Zailiiskiy Alatau foothills.
Kok Tobe Park Attractions
The TV Tower: on the top of the mountain stands the TV Tower, which can be seen on all postcard photos of the city, the famous symbol of the southern capital. At 371.5 metres, the TV Tower is one of the highest in the world and, together with the mountain, is 1,452 metres above sea level. Unfortunately, it is not accessible to tourists, so you can only admire it from the outside.
Monument to the Beatles: on 15 May 2007, the ceremonial opening of the “Beatles” bench took place on Kok Tobe Mountain as part of the “Music Chip – 2007” national award ceremony. This is the first and so far only memorial to the legendary Liverpool quartet in its entirety: John Lennon is sitting on a bench with his guitar, behind him are Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The sculptor of the Beatles bench is the famous sculptor Eduard Kazarian from Almaty.
Fountain of Wishes “Alma”: The Fountain of Wishes “Alma” is the first to greet visitors to Kok-Tobe and it is always crowded. Someone simply enjoys its coolness, someone thoughtfully tosses a coin into its transparent interior, and someone has their photo taken against the backdrop of a giant granite apple, the symbol of the sunny city of Almaty.
