Issyk-Kul - Canyon Fairytale
The Canyon “Fairytale” (or Canyon Skazka) gorge is is a small gorge on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul, famous for its red clay cliffs. The Canyon is located about 120 kilometres from Balykchy, near the village of Tosor.
The Canyon “Fairytale” is a very popular place with tourists. The reason is the easy accessibility of the canyon and its breathtaking landscapes and contrasts. The thousands of years of soil erosion have done the rest, creating a multitude of bizarre stone and clay figures in the Canyon. The canyon is made up of colourful clay, minerals and rocks that enhance the scenic beauty of the place.
Some of the natural sculptures in the canyon have their own names. The most striking is the “Great Wall of China”, which is very reminiscent of the famous Chinese architectural monument. In addition, there is practically no snowfall in winter, so you can experience the fairy tale in all its glory at any time of year. The Canyon “Fairytale” is very close to the Issyk-Kul road and lakeshore, making it a good choice for a holiday or picnic.
