Osh - Peak Lenin
Peak Lenin is the second highest peak in Kyrgyzstan and is located in the Alay mountain range in the Osh region.
Peak Lenin is one of the most popular climbing peaks in the Osh region and Kyrgyzstan. Every year many people come to this peak as it is a great opportunity to spend time at this altitude without any serious climbing training.
We would like to describe the geographical features of the peak in detail. Peak Lenin is located in the northern part of the Pamir Mountains, in the Zaalay range. Its altitude is 7,134 metres above sea level. The relative altitude is 2790 metres. Due to its great height, the peak rises extremely high above the Alai Valley.
The peak was first described by the Russian traveller A.P. Fedchenko, who visited the Alay Valley in 1871. The first ascent of the peak was made in 1928. Until 1933, Lenin Peak was considered the highest peak in the Soviet Union.
Peak Lenin is one of the easiest peaks in the world to climb and is therefore very popular. Besides mountaineers, however, it is also visited by ordinary tourists who want to admire the breathtaking panorama of the Pamir Mountains and one of the highest peaks in Central Asia.
The Achyk-Tash base camp is located at the foot of the peak in the area of the same name at an altitude of 3,600 metres. It has all the necessary tourist infrastructure, as the camp receives thousands of tourists every year.
